The formation of medical tourism is one of the tasks of the federal project "Development of the export of medical services", which is part of the national project"Healthcare". By 2024, it is necessary to reach the figure of $1 billion in the treatment of medical tourists. At the same time, in January – June 2019, foreign patients were treated in Russian medical institutions in the amount of $ 230 million. In total, 564 thousand foreigners were treated in Russia in 2019. 71 subjects of the Russian Federation participate in the implementation of the federal project "Development of export of medical services".
Many profiles are among the priority areas for the export of medical services, but oncology occupies one of the leading positions. For the second year in a row, the oncology profile, based on the amount of funds received, ranks second among the most popular profiles for providing medical services.
According to the data of the coordinating center, 3.9 million foreign citizens received medical services in medical organizations of the Russian Federation in the period from the II to the IV quarter of 2020, the volume of exports of medical services for 2020 amounted to $197 million.
Current issues within the framework of the Federal Project today are: provision of telemedicine services to foreign citizens, migration registration, visa support, billing of medical services.
The development of the export of medical services serves as a driver for the growth of the quality of medical care to the population of Russia.
The tasks set in the federal project "Export of medical services" of the national project "Healthcare" will be solved only with interdepartmental cooperation-with the participation of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Rosturizm, the Bank of Russia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian Export Center, so participation in joint commissions and conferences on Medical tourism is currently one of the key activities of the National Medical Research Center of Oncology named after N. N. Blokhin of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
The largest number of foreign patients comes from such countries as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Germany, Latvia, Serbia and Moldova.
